For years, the Moroccan authorities have been imposing tough restrictions on the freedom of opinion and expression. The authorities continuously target opposition press institutions and harass journalists, activists and human rights defenders. Many were subjected to violence, arbitrary detention and unfair trials to undermine their right to freedom of opinion and expression whenever they criticize state policies.
Despite international human rights and press organizations’ persistent demands to end the systematic targeting of freedom of opinion and expression throughout the past years, restrictions on freedoms are still suffocating Moroccans.
