Euro-Mid Observer for Human Rights

Defending Individuals' Freedom throughout the MENA Region

The Middle East is one of the world’s top “hot spots,” with many international players jockeying to play key roles. Some have drug parts of the region into war, while others have intervened -- with mixed results -- into local unrest caused by dictatorial regimes. Both international interference and local oppression often results in violations of human rights.

Among the most vivid examples are the Palestinians, who have lived under military occupation or the often draconian restrictions, imposed on refugees for more than 60 years.  Such basic human rights as the ability to travel to school, visit family or receive medical care; live in safe and affordable housing; speak or write freely; and receive a fair trial if suspected of wrongdoing are routinely prohibited or violated.

Although a wide variety of local and regional organizations excel ceaselessly day in and day out to document and report these violations, they are often stymied by the repressive regimes in which they must operate and rarely gain the attention of bodies at the European and global levels that have the authority to demand accountability and impose punishment. This is especially true for those groups that attempt to challenge the Israeli occupation and control of the Palestinian people. The EuroMid Observer for Human Rights will fill that gap.

EuroMid is registered as a human rights organization with internationally operating offices in Geneva, Switzerland -- the seat of many international agencies focused on human rights and law – and London.

Our regional office is located in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (Gaza Strip), with a number of representative officers across the region countries.

EuroMid will partner with local/regional organizations to select issues and cases most amenable to and in need of pan-European/global attention and pressure, and launch the necessary investigations and campaigns.

The organization works through a Board of Directors composed of experts in appropriate fields in the region and around the world. EuroMid is coordinated by a director, with regional managers.
